Painters on Demand was eager and up for the challenge when we received word that we would be part of the USF Sun Dome renovation. This project was POD's largest single contract to date.
We quickly assembled our team: a project manager, a project engineer, and a superintendent. Faced with several challenges, it quickly became apparent that the top priority would be the accelerated schedule. A project of this magnitude is generally takes eight months to complete, but USF's commitment to host graduation ceremonies meant substantial completion had to be achieved in only four months!
Painters on Demand was eager and up for the challenge when we received word that we would be part of the USF Sun Dome renovation.
Our seasoned project manager assembled a team of highly skilled professionals in five specialized divisions: painting, wall-covering, special paint finishes, expansion joints and caulking, and concrete restoration repair. Having multiple contracted divisions forced us to have a 'divide and conquer' mentality. We divided the team into groups with overlapping assignments, creating a built-in quality control process. This was crucial in order to achieve our ultimate goals—on-time completion and customer satisfaction.
This immense job consumed over 3,000 gallons of premium paint—enough to fill two semi-trailers! We also installed over 10,000 linear feet of urethane caulking—enough to extend 2 miles! The unique and challenging paint finish involved green and gold metallic paints that required a two-part, quick-dry medium. The process had to be done quickly with no margin for error and it required special equipment. A custom stained wood veneer was used throughout the club level lounge. This impressive covering wraps around large columns, adding a rich and warm feeling to the space.
Such a complex and challenging project could not have been a success if it wasn't for the 33 hard-working, dedicated, and skilled professionals who worked on the project. Their man-hours totaled over 3,000 and we owe them our gratitude for their work!
Painters on Demand would also like to thank the University of South Florida and Skansa USA for inviting us to work on this project.
